Our first excursion with our Royal Enfield motorcycles takes us to two of Ladakh’s most famous monasteries, Hemis and Thiksey, in the upper Indus Valley. We’ll get to know the bikes on a warm-up run and enjoy the beautiful views. Hemis Monastery was founded in the tenth century and is closely associated with the Yogi Naropa, founder of the esoteric Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism.
Afterwards, we’ll ride back to Leh for the night. Dinner will be served in the beer garden of a local restaurant.
The Ladakh tour begins with a relaxed ride down into the western Indus Valley. We’ll visit the ruins and temples of the ancient royal palace of Basgo. Hear towards Lamayuru also known as the moon land, visit the famous monastery of Lamayuru located right above the hill.
Today we’re aiming high: the 5,604-meter, highest motorable pass in the world, Khardung La. The tour to Khardung La Pass is one of the highlights of this Leh Ladakh bike tour. Situated at an elevation of 5615 meters in the Ladakh region, of the Indian Union Territory of Ladakh, Khardung La is the highest motorable pass in the world. Khardung La is situated 39 km by road from Leh, the capital of Ladakh.
The concept of conquering the world’s highest motorable road seems to be on many people’s mind while crossing this pass.
Today we’ll take a new track along the river Shyok, a tributary of the Indus. Pangong Lake, with its magical blue-green shimmer, is waiting for us at the end of a wild mountain road.
Arriving at its shore, we’ll spend the night in simple wooden bungalows with a view over the wide lake. At 4,360 meters above sea level, Lake Pangong marks the border between China and India.
