  • Walk down the stream and follow its bed east.
  • Walk up the bottom of the small gully on the left until it divides in three directions, taking the left fork which winds steeply up to the prinkiti la.
  • The pretty wanla village with its 11th century gompa high up on a crag, make a pleasant place to stop.

  • Head up on the stream (NE) bank of the Yapola long the jeep track which is totally devoid of shade.
  • Cross the side stream in phanjila before the small wooden bridge, continue up the main Ripchar valley to the Chinju village.

  • Elevation: 4905m/16,080ft.
  • It is a strenuous climb to the top of the pass, but you are rewarded with views all the way back to the Prinkiti La.
  • The trail passes some of the nomad & huts and enclosure where they make butter curd and cheese.

  • Stay up high on the shoulder out of Sumdo chenmo and after an hour drop down to the river.
  • Cross the minor pass the “pagan Nala” 4200m/13,780ft

  • Elevation: Dung – Dung Chan la 4700m/15,420ft
  • Chilling 3250m/10,660ft
  • Follow the sumdah Chu as it curves east, the way to dung-dung Chan la is up the slope from the camp its steep climb the pass. (option 2)
  • The village of chilling is famous for producing some of the best metal work in Ladakh.
