Located on the western shore of turquoise Lake Tso Moriri, Mentok Kangri is an exciting new hiking and climbing holiday for those looking for the first 6000m of the Himalayas. The area is near the westernmost part of Tibet, known as the Changthang Plateau. This trek takes us to the stunning landscape of the remote Tibetan plateau.It focuses mainly on the life of herdsman Changpa.After 2-3 days of well acclimatising and at the same time acclimatising for some sightseeing tour around Leh, we set off to the foot of Tanglang La. Rumtse is located below Tanglang La and on the highway Leh-Manali. We gradually set out from this village and cross three high passes before reaching Ponganagu near Tsokar. “Tso Kar” in Ladakhi means “Lake & Kar” means “White “And we cross another high pass of Yalung Nau La, from where we get our first view of Tso Moriri, 20 kilometres long. Crossing Yalung Nau la we descend to Korzok Phu, one of the largest nomadic settlements in the region, not far from the village of Korzok, we set up a base camp above the lake at an altitude of 5300 metres, and from here we set out to climb the highest points of the Mentok Massif. Stunning campsites under the wide- open sky, deeper looks at the life of the Changpas nomads and meets their families. Daily walks over 4500-5400 m, spectacular views from Mentok Kangri across Tsomoriri Lake to Tibet. A true trekking climbing expedition in Ladakh, a challenging but technically demanding climb.
